Summary
Had a good motivating week with a very clear goal. Some frustrations along the way, but in general great progress. Very glad this whole project is now done. Satisfying result.
Just this morning I made the decision of going to Thailand earlier and canceling the Vipassana because of that. Let’s see if that is still possible, and if yes I’ll quickly need to make a few preparations because then I’d depart in 2 weeks already.
What got done?
- Finished renovating the two bathrooms and my own room
- This took a loooong time and was a huge effort, but finally done
- Only thing missing in the flat is painting the doors and a few other minor things
- Very happy with the result
- Lots of help from my dad which I’m very grateful for
- Ate out almost every day
- Not super healthy
- ⇒ Could feel difference with my skin and my hair
- Finished negotiations with XX
- Evening with flatmates – at the public swimming pool 😅
- Met up with XX and XX
- Planned and led Hell Night
- Went to contact improv
- Listened to Acquired episodes of Visa, Amazon, and AWS
- Super interesting podcast and episodes
- They are telling the stories of the companies and then analyze their businesses
- But also very long (2-4h each)
- Interview with XX event
- They accepted me – seems like they were highly selective
- Took a shower after bathroom was done 😅
Lessons Learned
- Painting rooms and finishing them is like a hike in the alps. At some point in the middle it’s not that much fun anymore and actually quite painful and you finally want to arrive. And then when you arrive it’s not as inspiring as you had thought. But even then there are still periods where it can be very enjoyable and motivating and beautiful because you see/feel the progress
- If in doubt I should have difficult conversations earlier than feels comfortable. Can resolve things before they start becoming problems
- “Networking” can also just mean making friends and talking with them. I feel like having genuine connections is works really well, and for me personally better than just connecting with random but “useful” people
- It’s a nice feeling to initiate/organize something spontaneous together with friends, and it isn’t hard. You just have to suggest it, and something might happen. So far I always thought it has to be well thought out, but it can be as simple as “let’s all meet up at this time” and that’s it. So far I didn’t do this mostly because I thought the effort was too high, but this is not necessarily true
